The iDome is a vertical four-meter diameter fibreglass hemisphere that provides the surface for a 180-degree projection. It has a UHD 2.5K laser DLP video projector, equipped with a high-fidelity fisheye lens, mounted at the top of the iDome.

This structural and optical configuration addresses the entire peripheral vision of viewers standing directly in front of it, thereby creating a highly immersive three-dimensional viewing experience. This makes the iDome very well suited to the interactive visualisation of digital datasets, virtual worlds, and spherically panoramic images and movies. Viewers interact with the projected imagery using a six-degrees-of-freedom controller mounted on a column in front of the hemisphere, so as to rotate a panoramic scene or spatially manipulate 3D objects.
