iDome

iDome

iDome

The iDome is a vertical four-meter diameter fibreglass hemisphere that provides the surface for a 180-degree projection. It has a UHD 2.5K laser DLP video projector, equipped with a high-fidelity fisheye lens, mounted at the top of the iDome.

nVis

nVis is the world’s first 360-degree 3D LED cinematic screen, providing an enveloping environment where audiences can immerse themselves in fully surrounded real-world or computer-generated representations. Its cylindrical architecture is eight metres wide and four metres tall and consists of 400 LED panels providing a resolution of 2K x 13K totalling 26 million pixels. This expansive visual experience is amplified by a 32.4-channel surround sound system that in combination with under-floor transducers further substantiates its immersive qualities.

Linear Navigator

Linear Navigator

Linear Navigator

The Linear Navigator system interactively positions virtual information in physical space utilizing an LED LCD display that travels along a horizontal trajectory that is typically 8 to 12 meters long. This screen can move in either direction along its rails, and a digital encoder relays its exact position to the software application. The viewer’s control of its movements can either be done manually using a handle, or it can be motorized and operated using a lever, touchscreen or Bluetooth device. The Linear Navigator also incorporate speakers for soundtracks and audio information.

The Visualization Research Centre is equipped with numerous unique audiovisual recording devices on behalf of the production of content for its immersive visualisation systems. For 3D panoramic photography, it has a custom-built Seitz Roundshot 220VRS camera that incorporates a stereo pair of motorized 220 format film cameras that rotate to capture a 90 x 360-degree panoramic field of view. For gigapixel spherical photography the VRC uses a full-frame Canon digital camera mounted on a motorized Seitz Roundshot VR Drive as well as on a Rodeon VR Head.
