Data Capture Systems

The Visualization Research Centre is equipped with numerous unique audiovisual recording devices on behalf of the production of content for its immersive visualisation systems. For 3D panoramic photography, it has a custom-built Seitz Roundshot 220VRS camera that incorporates a stereo pair of motorized 220 format film cameras that rotate to capture a 90 x 360-degree panoramic field of view. For gigapixel spherical photography the VRC uses a full-frame Canon digital camera mounted on a motorized Seitz Roundshot VR Drive as well as on a Rodeon VR Head.

For spherical video recording (both 2D and 3D) VRC uses the 11K Inst360 Titan as well as the 8K Insta360 Pro2. The VRC has also developed its own custom-designed capture systems, such as a motorized dual Panasonic Lumix GH6 camera rig for digital 3D panoramic photography. For immersive audio recording, the VRC uses a SoundField ambisonics microphone as well as a Sennheiser AMBEO VR microphone, while motion capture, 3D photogrammetry and virtual set are also integral to its instrumentarium.
